Nestling in its own perfect bay between La Rocca and Punto San Vigilio, Garda is a pretty resort with a rich medieval history which can be seen in the Romanesque arches and cobbled, winding alleys that characterise the village. It has, arguably, the most impressive lakefront of all the resorts, with enticing gelaterias, busy bars and restaurants lining the traffic-free, tree-lined promenade, that stretches for over a mile along the water's edge, providing breathtaking views across the widest part of Lake Garda. Peaceful green hills dotted with olive groves provide a backdrop to the colourful boats bobbing in the harbour. The town livens up at night though when the promenade is thronged with people out for an after dinner stroll.
