During the fall of 2011, the Marines of the 31st MEU and the sailors of the USS Essex went underway on a mission. After successful completion, they were treated to some liberty in Bali, Indonesia, as well as Manila, Philippines. This is a video I made of some white water rafting in Bali, a Shellback Ceremony commemorating the crossing of the equator, a "steel beach BBQ" atop the flight deck, and a swim in the equatorial waters of the Pacific.
